Pain Caused by Bladder Endometriosis

Laparoscopy for Endometriosis

Symptoms

A 39 year old woman presented with significant pain with a full bladder.

Diagnosis

A detailed ultrasound suggested a bladder nodule of endometriosis. This was confirmed by a pelvic MRI.

Procedure

She subsequently underwent laparoscopy with removal of the bladder nodule and re-suturing of the bladder.

Outcome

She made an excellent recovery and was pain free.

View of the bladder at cystoscopy. The pigmented endometriosis is seen invading through the bladder wall.

View of the bladder at laparoscopy. The pigmented and tented area is the bladder endometriotic nodule.

The bladder nodule is dissected laparoscopically. The bladder is mobilised.

The bladder is entered as part of the procedure to ensure complete removal of the nodule. The urinary catheter and ureteric stents are seen.

The bladder is sutured laparoscopically.
