Torrential & Irregular Bleeding Caused by Fibroid

Hysteroscopy - Fibroids

Symptoms

A 39 year old woman presented for a second opinion. She was experiencing torrential and irregular bleeding. She also complained of left pelvic pain.

Diagnosis

A laparoscopy 12 months prior had revealed endometriosis which was cauterised. Hysteroscopy had been reported normal.

Procedure

She subsequently underwent hysteroscopy which revealed a large submucosal fibroid. This was resected hysteroscopically. The specimen weighed 36.3g. Laparoscopy revealed endometriosis of the left side wall and left utero-sacral ligament in the area of the left ureter. This was carefully excised.

Outcome

She made an excellent recovery with resolution of pain and bleeding.

Large fibroid in the cavity of the uterus.

The fibroid has been resected.

Left side wall endometriosis.

Careful excision of endometriosis - left side wall and left utero-sacral ligament.

The left ureter has been dissected out.

Complete excision of endometriosis - the pelvis at the end of the procedure.
